Since the band's dissolution, Morrissey has created
a very successful solo career, beginning with the alternative pop
of Viva Hate in 1988 and continuing into the 2000s with two strong
new albums in the new millennium.
Johnny Marr has gone on to be a member of experimental pop group
The The (1989-1993), to join forces with New Order's Bernard Sumner
in forming synth pop outfit Electronic (1989-?), and to lead his
own band, Johnny Marr & The Healers, who issued their debut,
Boomslang, in 1993. Andy Rourke has played with The Pretenders and
others, while Mike Joyce has drummed for, most notably, Iggy Pop
and Julian Cope. In 1990, Rourke and Joyce joined rhythmic forces
on Sinead O'Conner's I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got.
